Accommodation & Camping
Lane End Farm is situated conveniently next to the M62 Junction 19 Lane End Campsite the ideal place to pull onto and stay the night or stay for several days and are in a great location to meet friends and family traveling into Manchester. The site is set in a rural location in Hopwood a suburb of Heywood. With well maintained gardens and wonderful views out across the rolling hills and fields of Lancashire the site has been designed to not feel overcrowded and a view for everyone to enjoy. Please note this is a Camping & Caravaning Club members only site but you can join here and is highly recommended for VW camper van owners.
Nestling behind the picturesque Hollingworth lake at the foot of the Pennines close to the town of Littleborough and only 3 miles from Exit 21 of the M62 lies Hollingworth Lake Caravan Park. Within a few minutes walk from your pitch you will find within the country park something to interest you and your family, be it on or around the lake, fishing, sailing or perhaps hiring a rowing boat. The views are beatifull and watching the setting sun over the lake form your VW Camper van is not to be missed.
Things to do
Chinatown – Lets start with a bit of culture with a trip to Manchester’s Chinatown. The district is very central near Piccadilly Gardens and a short walk from Albert Square. Walking through the area, the most striking feature is the delightfully ornate Imperial Arch that welcomes you into Britain’s second-largest Chinatown. There is a veritable feast of restaurants in the area with Chinese, Korean, Thai, Malaysian and Japanese options. A must-visit for anyone who loves Far Eastern cuisine!
Old Trafford Stadium – Manchester United is seen as the home of football for many overseas so a trip to Old Trafford Museum should not be missed when visiting the stadium. The museum mainly deals with the history of Manchester United, from the very early days in 1878, when it started out as Newton Heath, the founding of Manchester United in 1902, to its many triumphs until today. Special emphasis is on the big tragedy that happened in 1958, when the aircraft carrying the team on return from a match in Belgrade crashed in Munich, eight players died and two were injured so heavily that they could not follow their football careers anymore. A large part of the museum is devoted to this terrible tragedy. There are also big showcases with many jerseys, shoes, balls etc., as well as a myriad of cups, medals and prizes, including the cup they won winning the Champions League final in 2008 against Chelsea.
Shopping – If there aren’t enough shops in Manchester City Centre (believe me, there are) then you could try the Trafford Centre. It’s a short drive away, or you can take the tram (get off at Stretford on the Altrincham line). Take a moment to look at the roof in the Trafford Centre as it’s painted almost as if by Michelangelo. It depends on what way you look at the Trafford Centre it could be either heaven or hell depending on your thoughts about shopping! All the high street stores can be found here – shame that there are no independents which is what this country lacks. The food hall there is pretty good but be warned on Saturday afternoons it can be busy. And is it’s camping equipment and general outdoor gear you are after then why not head out to Camperlands Superstore. Established in 1968 Camperlands is one of the UK’s leading retailers of camping equipment and outdoor accessories. Based on The Sharston Industrial area to the south, type M22 4RN into the sat nav and look out for the sign on Leestone Road.
