The Cairngorm Mountain Railway
Ok, so what do you do when your camper van is parked up and at the top car park but you still want to get even higher up the mountain? You head for The Cairngorm Mountain Railway of course! This is the highest railway in the United Kingdom which in opened in 2001. The 2km long funicular ascends the northern slopes of Cairn Gorm, the United Kingdom’s sixth-highest mountain. Those with a passion for mountain biking / hill walking / skiing and snowboarding will surely want to take a visit. Please check weather conditions and ensure your camper is prepared before heading up the mountain in cold weather as the road can become treacherous during the winter months.
With miles of open quiet roads the National Cycle Network spans almost the entire area and includes 65km of off road routes. Mountain biking around Aviemore and the Cairngorms gives you every opportunity to enjoy the scenery at your own pace. Take heed though is not all easy pedaling as the area hosts some of the best mountain bike trails in Scotland. The experienced can head into the wilderness with a map or hurtle down a man made trail. The area is perfect for off road mountain biking with easy woodland trails, challenging downhill routes and custom built white-knuckle tracks ideal for the adrenaline junkies! At the end of the day return to your VW camper to warm yourself by a fire and sample the local produce of the distilleries.

The river Spey winds down from the mountains offering fantastic rafting, canoeing and kayaking.
