VW Campers for Sale Scotland | The VW Enthusiasts guide to Edinburgh
Ever wanted to hit the road and not know here you are going? Me too… There’s something about the freedom that a VW camper seems to exude. Maybe it’s the throw back to it’s past as an iconic hippy bus, the fact they often have pet names by their owners, or maybe it’s just because they allow you to be who you want to be by offering a gateway to explore. Either way, VW campers have been bought, sold, exchanged, built and lovingly restored for the last 60 years or so, and then trend seems set to continue.
So after spending the majority of your free time (and possibly while at work) searching VW campers for sale sites such as www.vwcampercrazy.com, www.morecambeandwize.com, www.ebay.com, you finally found the one! Chances are you exchanged a small fortune and shook hands in a car park and took off down the motorway in your distraction with a huge grin on your face; yep, we know how it is, been there done that :-). After finding out the rust free, never welded, one of a kind camper needed a bit more work than the vendor suggested you got to work and spent the remaining budget and some tidying things up. You didn’t mind as you knew this was the holidays home on wheels going to “pay you back for years to come”. Yes, we’ve all said that to ourselves as well!
So your project is now complete and you are planning your first road trip. Based up North the sunny climes of Devon and Cornwall seem a slog for your first run out so you plan a trip up the A68 to Edinburgh. But what’s to do there? Well quite a bit it turns out and so much we don’t have time to write about it all, but here’s our VW camper fans ‘pit stop’ guide to the city.
Stayin with the car theme enthusiasts may also find the annual Scottish Car Show of interest. Held annually at the Royal Highland center this one day event. Entry costs £18 for adults, £10 concessions and children under 10, 0-10’s get in free and include access to the full show arena including the 3 indoor halls, the upper hall with our video games section plus the full track stunt show and live action arena. Displays are across the badges but there’s a few vw gems hidden amongst the masses!
Myreton Motor Museum
Turn right off the A68 away from the city and the Myreton Motor Museam is well signposted from the A198 and B1377 roads and is close to the seaside villages of Aberlady and Gullane, in East Lothian, Scotland. It was founded was founded by Willie Dale in 1966 and has a large collection exhibits such as cars, bicycles, motor cycles and commercial vehicles dating from 1899. There is also an interesting assortment of period advertising, posters, enamel signs, and toy vehicles making it a must see for vintage car enthusiasts.
Heading into town after the car show, then a popular choice for those loving classic Americana is Ed’s Easy Diner. Serving up a big slice of 1950’s American culture, with a menu of classic stateside favorites against a backdrop of popular jukebox hits. Relax and enjoy great hamburgers, delicious hot dogs and arguably the best, most decadent milkshakes in town. It’s just a shame it doesn’t have a drive through!
