What to do in and around Glasgow in your VW Camper
Adrenaline junkies should be sure to check out the Snow Factor. This indoor real snow experience offers ski and snowboard hire and tuition as well as a Ice wall for those climbers who feeling really brave. Little ones will enjoy the sledging and tubing session while dads will find the ice bar and restaurant appealing. Proper chilled out fun! Oh, and don’t forget to pack your winter gear in!
The Riverside Museum is the acclaimed Zaha Hadid-designed museum of transport, dubbed ‘Glasgow’s Guggenheim’, with more than 3,000 exhibits recalling an era when tramcars, boneshaker buses and vintage cars rattled through cobbled streets. Moored outside is the prize exhibit, the Glenlee, a three-masted barque launched in 1896 and one of only five sailing ships built on the River Clyde still afloat. Prefect for transport and camper lovers alike.
Want to see something really Scottish? Well it doesn’t get much more than this. The World Pipe Band Championships are held on August 14-15 with this being the biggest – and loudest – gathering of the world’s finest bagpipers and drummers for fiercely contested individual and band competitions. More than 200 bands from Canada to New Zealand compete with the best in Scotland. Held on Glasgow Green this event will be one you can’t miss.
Each February Scotland largest Caravan and Motorhome show is held at the SECC (Scottish Exhibition and Conference center), unfortunately Morecambe and Wize have yet to make it up to exhibit at this one but it’s on the cards for the future. There is something on offer for all ages and interest’s, so long as it’s camper or holiday home related that is. Pollark Country Park is Glasgow’s largest park and the only Country Park within Glasgow. Its extensive woodlands and gardens provide a quiet sanctuary for both visitors and wildlife.The Park is rich in rural history formerly being part of the Old Pollok Estate and ancestral home to the Maxwell Family . A sylvan wonderland of more than 360 acres, voted Europe’s Best Park in 2008, where Highland cattle roam by a river among woodland glades. Highlights include the Burrell Collection with works by Rodin, Degas and Cézanne, and late medieval, Chinese and Islamic art. By the river stands a grand country house with formal gardens and the UK’s finest collection of Spanish art.
